Andy Janssen (*1993) is a composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist.
Having grown up close to Hamburg, he has been living in Aachen for 10 years by now.
In his creative work there is a special focus on vocal music and Lied –
he is a founding member and initiator of the vocal ensemble AaVokaSo [Aachen vocal soloists], in which he is active as a singer (baritone) and composer.
He also performs as a pianist in various projects.
Two recent compositions were comissioned by the Jugendkonzertchor der CHORAKADEMIE am Konzerthaus Dortmund and the Kölner Kantorei, respectively.
His work Stabat Mater in Mundo was created in collaboration with Bas Van Damme (Countertenor) as a companion piece to G. B. Pergolesi's Stabat Mater.
The concert programme of the same name premiered in April 2025 in Leuven (BE). Further performances took place in Hamburg and Leuven in the spring of 2026.
As of this year, Stabat Mater in Mundo is published by Edition Ferrimontana as well as another work of his, Vier Lieder (nach Texten von Friedrich Schlegel).
From 2012 to 2014 Andy studied jazz drums at the Conservatorium Maastricht (NL) with Ron van Stratum and Arnoud Gerritse, and composition/arrangement with Wolfgang Braun from 2014, obtaining a master's degree in May 2019.
In addition, he took part in various international master classes.
Andy teaches piano, music theory and composition privately and works as a drum teacher at the Musikschule Brand, Aachen.
