Andy Janssen (*1993) is a composer & arranger, ensemble leader and multi-instrumentalist. He currently lives in Aachen, Germany.

In his creative work there is a special focus on vocal music and Lieder - two of his song cycles were premiered in 2022 and 2023 respectively, his Missa brevis in E for six-part mixed choir won him a third prize at the Caneres International Music Competition in February 2023.

This autumn two new choral works will be premiered, which he wrote for a newly founded Aachen based vocal ensemble and which he will conduct himself.

Andy regularly performs as a Lied pianist and ensemble singer (baritone) and also writes compositions and arrangements for theatre/musical productions.

Although Andy is mainly active in the modern classical music field, jazz is also a big influence for him.

From 2012 - 2014 he studied jazz drums at the Conservatorium Maastricht (NL) with Ron van Stratum and Arnoud Gerritse, and from 2014 composition & arrangement with Wolfgang Braun.

He obtained his Master's degree in May 2019.

In addition, he took part in master classes, e.g. with John Clayton, Dennis Mackrel and, more recently, Noah Max.

During his studies he had the opportunity to work with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw twice.

A recent jazz/classical crossover arrangement was commissioned by Belgian trumpeter Carlo Nardozza and performed by the string ensemble Boho Strings.

Andy works privately as a piano teacher as well as a teacher of drums and music theory at Musikschule Brand, Aachen.
